Tanning Craze Goes Insane: Dermatologists Identifies Tanning as Surefire Cause of Skin Cancer

The tanning craze has gone insane – literally. According to studies, the melanoma rates across the globe are currently increasing, this is all thanks to tanning. Among Americans, the incidence has doubled for the past 30 years especially for women aged 15 to 39 which is referred to by experts as an abrupt change.

Moreover, celebrities were often blamed because of the hype. Some of them include Kim Kardashian, Snooki and Lindsay Lohan. However, others state that the mother of tanning was actually Coco Chanel. According to the fashion legend, she got her tan while traveling to Riviera. The fans, thinking that her look was chic had decided to tan themselves to imitate the look. Chanel would have never guessed that after some years, the effect on women would be horrifying. It is like creating tanned female zombies or female tanning addicts. According to the Elle magazine’s website, much of this tanning craze is attributed to willful stupidity. Trends like these were deadly. Based on the American Academy of Dermatology, a citizen dies from it every hour. Melanoma was also linked to the ultraviolet (UV) exposure from the sun or from indoor tanning. Doctor David Fisher, the current chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Massachusetts General Hospital states that they knew few causes of cancers but the most humiliating is that the incidences of melanoma are rapidly rising unlike any other cancer forms.

People despite learning that tanning is bad for the skin seem to just shrug the news off. As stated on a fashion news magazine, the American Academy of Dermatology has learned that 81 percent of women aged 14 to 22 years old had used indoor tanning much to frequently in the previous year. This raises these women’s chances of getting melanoma by 75 percent. UV light from these indoor tanning beds is classified as carcinogenic and the World Health Organization recommended the banning of such beds. Women should be vigilant in choosing the trends to follow and what they should dispose. This tanning craze will surely claim more lives. Not to mention is causes premature aging since the skin abhors too much UV rays.
