OWN’s Rihanna Interview Sets Viewership Record

In an amazing breaking entertainment news, The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) reportedly recorded its second highest-rating episode when it featured Barbados-born pop royalty Rihanna in one of its Oprah’s Next Chapter telecast.

The said airing was reported to have attracted some 2.5 million viewers, the second-highest in the network’s history. Incidentally, the highest-rating episode of the show featured Whitney Houston’s wake, which fetched some 3.5 million viewers.

Additionally, the Rihanna sit-down interview got a 2.4 rating among women in the 25-54 age group, while it snagged a 2.5 rating with women in the 18-49 age bracket. The said figures showed that female celebrity sit-downs tend to appeal naturally to the show’s female viewers.
For the said telecast, Winfrey had to fly in to Rihanna’s native Barbados and conduct the hour-long interview.

During the interview, the pop diva gave a no-holds-barred tell-all interview, particularly talking of her troubled relationship with hip-hop and RnB royalty Chris Brown.

Specifically, Rihanna told Oprah when asked how her relationship with Brown is going some three years following their much-publicized scuffle, that she still maintains close friendship with her former lover.

“We’re very, very close friends. We built a trust again and that’s it. We love each other and we probably always will,” Rihanna told Oprah.

It could be remembered that Chris brutally attacked and hurt Rihanna in their home way back three years ago. The pop diva was photographed with some serious bruises, particularly in her face.

Since then, the two we’re, in Rihanna’s words, “just friends,” and are not living together.

The clincher of the interview was when Rihanna said straight to Oprah that she thinks Chris is “the love of my life.”

Mixed Reactions

Expectedly, the tearful admission generated different reactions from viewers.

Some we’re completely sympathetic of the pop singer, saying that she probably just loved Chris that much, enough to forgive him for what he did. However, others were irked, even distraught, on Rihanna’s statements.
